After ten years working for local planning authorities in London, Kent and Somerset, Nigel moved to the private sector to become a Director of a firm of rural surveyors in the West Country before founding Salmon Planning Company in 1998.
Nigel Salmon leads our planning team with a blend of strategic insight, calm pragmatism and a genuine enthusiasm for helping clients realise their development goals.
With his deep knowledge and experience of the world of planning, he thrives on finding solutions to complex planning cases. immersing himself in the early strategic thinking that shapes a project’s ultimate direction. At his best when navigating the most complicated planning challenges, he works methodically towards solutions that put the client’s needs first and deliver clear, positive outcomes.
His approach is thoughtful, collaborative, and always grounded in what will serve the project — and the client — most effectively.
Nigel has a degree in Geography and Town Planning and has been a Chartered Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute since 1978. Nigel has an excellent reputation for achieving positive outcomes for clients in planning appeals and judicial reviews.

The advice I received was extremely helpful both in its decisiveness and clarity and backed up by a very useful written report. I wish I had contacted a planning-led architectural firm first off rather than having expensive plans drawn up by an architect and then refused by the Local Authority! It would have been a much cheaper exercise.
