Planning Appeal Success: Permission for exciting re-modelling of 1960's bungalow into spectacular new family home.
In January 2025 we were delighted to achieve planning permission when an appeal was allowed in Portishead, North Somerset, to re-model a 1960’s bungalow into a spectacular new home. The property's stunning location with panoramic views across the Bristol Channel will now be maximised with this appeal win granting permission for an amazing home.

Background to the Appeal
The clients had organised the design and submission of their original planning application to significantly alter their existing home themselves. However, after a protracted period of negotiations with the Council, the application was refused planning permission on two grounds relating to the amenity impact on an adjacent neighbour. Salmon Planning Company were then commissioned to provide independent advice on the merits of the case. Having done so, Salmon Planning was then instructed to lodge a planning appeal in July 2024.
Salmon Planning Company Added Value
The clients were delighted that six months later in January 2025 the Inspector overturned the Council’s decision and granted permission for the existing house to be extended and remodelled. The Inspector agreed with Salmon Planning Company's case that the development didn’t materially harm the nearest neighbours.
This is an example of one of the many planning appeal successes Salmon Planning has achieved and testimony to the benefits of employing a chartered planning consultant to guide you through the complex process of achieving planning permission. We look forward to this scheme becoming reality and our client moving into their dream home soon!
